With over 10 years experience of product innovation in chemical analytical instruments, Dionamix Scientific brings IP-rich analytical instruments directly to cannabis growers in Canada.

Unlike many labs in Canada who allow cultivators and processors to outsource analytical testing, Dionamix Scientific designs and manufactures chromatography and spectroscopy analytical instruments that they are looking to put into the hands of cannabis growers to allow them to conduct this testing on their own.

As cannabis growers look to better standardize the cannabinoid levels of their crops and maximize yield and potency, Dionamix founder says the company’s L-3000 HPLC, Ultra-3000 Series UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, and the Ultrachrom HPLC Workstation can give growers the ability to oversee, better measure and optimize crop outputs.

As the volume of tests increase, test turnaround time and cost become prohibitive. Plus, an in-house test instrument has the added benefit of performing the potency compliance testing saving further time and cost.

Although sending each harvest into a lab for analytical testing is often a fairly easy process, Hilton Hammond, product marketing manager at Dionamix Scientific, says the process can become more costly and challenging if the grower is looking to test samples of the crop at other points in the growth cycle.

“In general, the challenge related to accessing labs is pretty minimal, depending on the circumstance, test requirements, and in some cases location,” says Hammond. “For instance, for the routine, once-every-cycle compliance testing, the labs are accessible and eager to test your sample and will do it relatively quickly and for a reasonable cost.

“However, when it comes to the everyday need for testing, for example, to understand what’s going on across the entire crop during the growth and curing stages, or to experiment with strains and growing technique by adjusting conditions and feed, the number of tests increase exponentially creating significant challenges. As the volume of tests increase, test turnaround time and cost become prohibitive. Plus, an in-house test instrument has the added benefit of performing the potency compliance testing saving further time and cost.”

We offer a turnkey solution, including instrumentation, equipment, test data management, plus maintenance services and financing, and… training.

In order to address this, Hammond says Dionamix is looking to provide growers with the equipment and training to conduct this sort of testing on their own.

“Dionamix can go beyond just supplying the instrumentation, we can help with just about every aspect of using potency testing in their business from product development, quality control, compliance testing (where permitted by local regulations) and test data records management,” continues Hammond.

“The growers are skilled at producing cannabis but can often lack, especially small scale growers, the breadth of resources like PhD’s or Quality Assurance Personnel to really take advantage of the power of cannabinoid measurement data to leverage their craft to grow and differentiate their business.”

What we have done is create a standardized cannabis test method, with our specially premixed solvents and standard operating procedures to make it easy to operate and to get consistent results in the shortest time.

“We have decades of collective instrumentation experience and have served customers around the globe in high demanding institutional research, commercial lab operations and governmental compliance applications.”

Dionamix can offer cultivators a full HPLC system, including cannabis test method, test data info management via a cloud-based system to collect, manage and archive test results, general lab equipment, setup, training and support, as well as third party financing.

“We offer a turnkey solution,” explains Hammond, “including instrumentation, equipment, test data management, plus maintenance services and financing. We also provide training on that equipment, not only on the operation of the testing system, but also of the basic knowledge of the quality control process.

“What we have done is create a standardized cannabis test method, with our specially premixed solvents and standard operating procedures to make it easy to operate and to get consistent results in the shortest time.”
