Police in Montreal say they have dismantled an illegal cannabis production and distribution network in the city’s West Island district yesterday.

Le Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) carried out searches in eight residences located in the boroughs of Lachine, L’Île-Bizard – Sainte-Geneviève and Pierrefonds-Roxboro, as well as in the cities of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval, Pointe-Claire and Senneville.

The raid, which was led by the ACCES and Proceeds of Crime unit in collaboration with local police, led to the seizure of more than $150,000 in production equipment and more than 1,300 cannabis plants, as well as cannabis bagged for distribution. Cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, fentanyl, psilocybin mushrooms and over $40,000 in cash were also found.

Three of the locations searched held a license to produce cannabis for personal medical purposes. Police contend that part of the production was instead diverted into the illicit market, targeting a “student clientele” (“clientèle étudiante”).
