Ontario police seize thousands of cannabis plants in several more raids this week

Ontario police say they seized 4,300 cannabis plants from a property in Fergus today, along with an undisclosed amount of cannabis they say is worth $250,000.

Two people, 40-year-old Wei Chen of Aurora and 30-year-old Zhong Xiang Chen of Gwillimbury have been arrested and charged with Cannabis Act and other related offences.  They are expected to appear in court on July 27.

Police say they also seized a large amount of Canadian currency. The raid, led by the Wellington OPP Community Street Crime Unit, along with the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team, with help from the county of Wellington Roads Department, the Electrical Safety Authority, and Centre Wellington Fire Department.

Earlier this week, OPP in Essex County say they seized over $6.1-million in cannabis and equipment after dismantling a cannabis production facility in Kingsville. Over 3,500 cannabis plants, over 640 kilograms of processed cannabis and a large quantity of marijuana production equipment was seized.

OPP in Stirling-Rawdon also seized 2,000 plants from an illicit grow on June 23, following an “extensive investigation.” involving a rural property on Springbrook Road. Police then charged 44-year-old Junli Chen and 56-year-old Ai Min Yang with two counts each of cultivating cannabis illegally. Both are scheduled to appear in court on August 9.
