Police in Quebec made several recent arrests this week in relation to illicit cannabis operations.

On April 23, Quebec provincial police (SQ) arrested four individuals in Drummondville and Sherbrooke in connection with the sale of illicit cannabis.

Police say the investigation took several months and led to the seizure of:

  • 771 cannabis plants in production
  • 20 kg of cannabis
  • More than $1,300 in Canadian currency

Also, police officers from the Quebec City Contraband Investigation Division (Quebec region) of the Sûreté du Québec conducted a series of searches on April 30 as part of an ACCES-Cannabis program operation in Quebec City.

In the course of those searches, police seized dried cannabis, THC vape pens, contraband cigarettes, nicotine vapes, cash, and more:

  • A little over 400 grams of cannabis buds
  • Approximately $24,000 in Canadian currency
  • A little over 35,000 contraband cigarettes
  • Approximately 250 THC Wax Pens
  • A little over 400 nicotine vapes
  • Approximately 1,000 containers of various steroids
  • 2 accessories bearing the image of criminal groups
  • Accounting documents
  • A money counter

The police operation mobilized around thirty officers from the Sûreté du Québec and the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), in addition to dog handlers. They were distributed across five different locations for this phase of the search.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Public Security, the ACCES Cannabis program (Concerted Actions to Counter Underground Economies) is a government initiative established in 2018 to combat cannabis smuggling at all stages of supply, from illegal production to neighbourhood smuggling, throughout Quebec. Its objective is to promote the integrity of Quebec’s tax system, reduce the accessibility of cannabis for young people, and direct consumers to a legal and safe market.
