Cannabis sales reach new high in April

Statistics Canada’s most recent updated figures for monthly cannabis retail trade show sales reaching a new high of nearly $470 million in April 2025.

The newest figures (adjusted for seasonality), which routinely shift as new sales data comes in, also update previous months’ sales figures from $408.2 million in February and $428.4 million in March to $456.4 million and $462.5 million, respectively.

These figures are regularly updated by Statistics Canada as new sales data from different provinces becomes available.

A previous high of $476 million in August 2024 has now been lowered to $462.4 million.

About 38% of all cannabis sales in Canada (unadjusted) in April 2025 were sold in Ontario ($179.5 million).

The second two high-selling provinces, Alberta and BC combined, sold less than Ontario ($150.5 million).

A recent report, compiled from data from cannabis retail digital platform Hifyre and Statistics Canada, says the Canadian cannabis industry is continuing to show signs of slowing growth and market consolidation.

Figures from Hifyre show total cannabis sales (non-medical) grew 4% in the first quarter of 2025, compared to just over 6% growth for all of 2024, and down from mid-teens growth in 2022 and 2023.
