Life Cycle Botanics is a cannabis nursery operating on BC’s Vancouver Island getting ready to begin supplying new genetics to commercial cultivators, especially those in BC.
Cotyleden
Recently licensed in December 2020, Cotyleden is one of only 14 cannabis nurseries currently operating in Canada. Nick Trueman, the company’s founder and a long time cannabis grower, says he chose the nursery licence because he foresaw the importance that genetics would play in the industry.

Segra’s focus pivoted into honing the technology of plant tissue culture for cannabis and building a diverse library of stabilized cultivars for both research and production uses.
West River Cannabis
West River Cannabis, near the West River of Pictou in Nova Scotia, sits across from his father’s nursery, West River Greenhouses. Although just licensed in April, he hopes to soon begin selling cannabis clones to commercial growers and eventually even the consumer market.

The second cannabis nursery licensed in Canada, Mother Labs Inc. has been turning out clones from their genetic bank of about 150 cultivars to dozens of cannabis growers, from large scale LPs to smaller micro cultivation licence holders.

Weathered Islands bills itself as focussing on Legendary Texada Genetics, especially those bred for success outdoors in Canada’s climate, and plans on soon beginning to supply both commercial growers as well as home growers with unique, robust outdoor genetics.

By taking samples of a plant and sending it in as a tissue culture sample, ProgenyBio could then ‘clean’ the plants of various negative pathogens that can affect plant health and productivity, before returning a fully rooted sample the grower could then continue to grow out.
Inplanta Biotechnology
Located on campus at the University of Lethbridge in southern Alberta, Inplanta Biotechnology is home to three small greenhouses and several breeding rooms and labs. It bills itself as providing cannabis genetics, breeding and research services primarily to commercial growers at the moment.
New Cannabis Seeds Should Soon Be Available in Stores in BC
Geoff White, the owner of ProgenyBio Agricultural Services Inc. in Penticton, BC says he has been working with the province of BC’s Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) to get seeds from his cannabis nursery (under the brand erbaceous) available for sale to British Columbians potentially as early as this month.
