A cannabis store near Calgary, Alberta, faced an attempted break-in on Friday, February 28.

RCMP officers were dispatched to an attempted break-and-enter at a cannabis store in Irricana, Alberta, at 4:15 am on February 28, according to local media

The incident occurred at Convenient Cannabis, at 302b 2 Street in Irricana. Suspects were said to have fled the scene in a previously stolen vehicle. RCMP members were able to locate the accused persons with the assistance of a Calgary Police Service helicopter and K9 unit.

Simone Roy, 27,  from Calgary, Alberta, was charged with 31 offences, ranging from Break and Enter to a business, Firearm related offences, failing to comply with probation, flight from police, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Rory Libbrecht, 26, from Calgary, Alberta, and Dustin Wood, 44, from Calgary, Alberta, were charged with the same offences as Roy.

According to the Rocky View Weekly, the break-in was mostly unsuccessful.

“They did not clean out the cannabis shop,” Peterson wrote in an email sent to the newspaper. “They ripped off the door hardware and when inside could not open the door to the supply room because of the strength of the door and lock. The culprits were caught and released on a mischief charge.”

The Rocky View Weekly also reported that one witness saw two suspicious vehicles coming down a back alley along 2nd Avenue.

“I looked out and I thought they were breaking into the school buses out here, but I couldn’t see very good so I got up and got dressed,” the man recalled in an interview with the Rocky View Weekly

“As I got dressed, one of the vehicles was a four-door truck which backed down the alley going east one whole block. It backed right up to the door of the pot shop located on 1st and 2nd Street … In 30 seconds they threw a chain around the door, and ripped the door off.”

In a post on Facebook, the store stated they remain open.

“Last night there was a break in but we did not lose anything and are still open for business. The door has been fixed (it’s been through a lot) and other than a damaged sign we are back to a fully operational retail store.”
