A 58 year-old man from Newfoundland Labrador is facing multiple charges for trying to import cannabis products into the province.

Craig Sharron of Northern Arm is facing those charges resulting from an investigation into the illegal importation of cannabis products into the province by Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP, with assistance from Canadian postal inspectors and Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation.

During the investigation, RCMP seized more than two kilograms of cannabis and two kilograms of hashish, as well as $20,000 in cash seized from a home in Northern Arm. Sharron was charged with multiple offences under the Cannabis Act and the Cannabis Control Act on October 13. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2021.

Canadians are allowed to ship cannabis, with Canada Post even providing instructions on how to do so safely and discretely, as long as it is within federal and provincial limits, generally only up to 30 grams of dried flower or its equivalent.

Canada post requires this use of odour-proof, tamper-proof and leak-proof inner and outer packaging and an anonymous outer packaging without any marking or advertising that indicates what’s in the package.
