This past week at StratCann, the big news was the numerous expected changes to the federal  Cannabis Regulations that came out on Wednesday. 

Cannabis producers say they want to play their part in the push to strengthen Canada’s economy, while the industry’s contribution to Canada’s GDP continues to grow.

Simply Solventless seeks to acquire CanadaBis/Stigma Grow, and Rubicon Organics announced its first international cannabis shipment to Poland.

SNDL secured 5.4% of High Tide’s shares. Village Farms released their Q4 2024 results. Four20 seeks an extension and acceptance of a recent plan of compromise, and a court approved the reverse vesting order for Noya Holdings, adding ResidualCo to CCAA proceedings.

Dutch coffeeshops said more time is needed to transition to a fully regulated supply chain in the Netherlands.

Rubicon Organics Inc. has announced its first shipment of dried cannabis flower into the international market, starting with a shipment to Poland.

In law enforcement news, a referral from Health Canada led to a large seizure in Ontario, and Toronto police arrested three in connection with cannabis exports to the UK.

BlogTO reports that all Superette locations in Toronto have been changed to Value Buds. Both brands are owned by SNDL.

Insolvency Insider shared more insights from their recent cannabis insolvency conference, with comments from OCS, CRA, the Dept. of Justice, and others.

A rooftop fire caused damage to an administrative building belonging to Organigram in Moncton, New Brunswick, on March 14. The fire is said not to have impacted the company’s production facility.

The downtown Iqaluit cannabis store Higher Experience in Nunavut will keep its current location after a seven-month legal battle with the North’s largest private landlord.

Law Enforcement

Toronto Police arrested two men during an illegal cannabis dispensary investigation, seizing cannabis, cash, and a loaded handgun. 

RCMP in Alberta seized ~250 illicit cannabis plants, 10 pounds of psilocybin, weapons, and multiple ounces of cannabis extracts, following a search of a home in Carstairs and an Airdrie business

Prince Albert police seized nearly nine kilograms of cannabis after searching a grow operation west of Prince Albert with an estimated 100 cannabis plants, as well as cocaine, MDMA, and cash. 

On March 12, RCMP officers arrested five men in connection with an illegal cannabis storefront in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia, seizing a large quantity of illegal cannabis, psilocybin, and unstamped tobacco.

Protests are planned after RCMP raids on Mi’kmaq-owned cannabis stores in Nova Scotia. RCMP say enforcement will continue, and additional arrests are expected. 

International cannabis news

A survey in the US by AAA says 46.9% of cannabis consumers believe they either drive the same, a little better (14.7%), or much better (19.4%) while under the influence.
