Unlicensed cannabis store again faces enforcement action in New Brunswick

The L’Nuk Lounge & Co., an unlicensed cannabis store in New Brunswick, was raided again by provincial enforcement Justice and Public Safety Peace officers on January 16.

In posts on the L’Nuk Lounge’s social media accounts, members of New Brunswick Justice and Public Safety are seen outside of the L’Nuk Lounge and Trading Post operating out of a home in a mixed/residential neighbourhood at 767 Coverdale Rd, Riverview, just outside of Moncton.

A second L’Nuk Lounge location in Moncton that has also faced past enforcement actions recently had its lease terminated and was evicted after its landlord faced a court order in December. New rules in New Brunswick, passed in 2024, mean that landlords can face fines of up to $5,000 a day for failing to prohibit the sale of illegal cannabis using their property.

Bill 29, An Act Respecting The Cannabis Control Act, gave inspectors more authority and increased fines for those operating illegal cannabis stores, as well as their landlords.

“This constant harassment has to stop!,” stated a post on the L’Nuk Lounge’s Facebook page. “The provincial government would rather spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to harass us and other dispensaries instead of dropping prices to be competitive. They are doing this for monopoly, NOT Public Health & Safety…”

No official information from the province, which is often shared here, has been made available as of publication. The business has faced repeated enforcement actions by provincial authorities.

Justice and Public Safety Peace officers are responsible for New Brunswick’s Safer Communities programs, such as the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods program, and addressing illegal cannabis and tobacco operations.

In the most recent fiscal year, peace officers in New Brunswick say they investigated and shut down 23 illegal cannabis dispensaries across the province.
