Micro cannabis licenses across Canada continue to grow

| Staff

The number of micro cannabis licences across Canada continues to grow. As of Friday, September 17, there were 249 micro licences with licence holders in every province.

Micro cultivators are licensed to grow cannabis within a 200m2 canopy, while micro processors are allowed to process up to 600kg of cannabis a year.

Ontario and BC lead the country, with 64 and 60 licences respectively, followed by Quebec with 37, Alberta with 26, Nova Scotia with 20, and Saskatchewan with 18. Manitoba and New Brunswick are both home to 8 micros, while Newfoundland and PEI each have four.

Micro cultivators also continue to build their business, with new micro processing licences and product sales licences issued most weeks to existing licence holders, as well.

New sales amendments

In the past two months:

  • Jazz Cabbage Gardens, a micro cultivator and processor in Nova Scotia received their dried/fresh sales licence amendment
  • Retro Cannabis and Hemp Extracts, a micro processor in PEI received their Extracts, Edible, and Topical sales licenses
  • 102016483 Saskatchewan Ltd., a micro cultivator and processor in Saskatchewan received their dried/fresh sales licence
  • Sweet Vengeance, a micro cultivator and processor in Ontario received their Dried/Fresh sales licence

Micro cultivators add micro processing licences

Kinhana Cannabis Inc. a micro cultivator in Ontario, Viridescent Botanicals Inc., a micro cultivator in Ontario, Habitat Craft Cannabis Ltd. a micro cultivator in BC, Southern Prairie Plant Growers Ltd. d.b.a T8 Cannabis, a micro cultivator in Saskatchewan, Canadian Healthy Hydroponics Crops, and Advanced Recreational Kannabis Inc. a micro cultivator in Quebec, all received their micro processing licence over the past eight weeks, as well.

Transitioning to a standard licence

Some micros have also expanded their footprint and/or capacity to become standard cultivators or processors. While a micro cultivator is limited to growing within a 200m2 canopy and micro processors are limited to processing no more than 600kg of dried cannabis a year, standards have no such limits. They do, however, have greater security and quality assurance requirements due to the greater volumes of cannabis on-site.

ANC Inc in Alberta recently transitioned their micro cultivation and processing site to a standard cultivation and processing site and 9404-5077 Québec Inc, formerly a micro cultivator in Quebec, is now a standard cultivation licence holder.

11145207 Canada Inc, a micro cultivator and processor in Nova Scotia now has its Extracts, Edibles, and Topicals licenses, Les Eaux St-Léger Inc./St-Leger Waters Inc. a micro processor in Quebec received their Extracts, Edibles and Topical sales licences, and North 40 Cannabis Limited now has their Dried/Fresh, Extracts, Edible, Topical.
