Ontario producer Motif Labs Ltd. has issued a voluntary recall for their Boxhot Glowstick 510 Batteries due to reports of the batteries overheating when charging.
Recall notices have been posted to the BC Cannabis Store and Ontario Cannabis Store websites. According to a notice posted at OCS.ca, there have been four reports of batteries overheating when charging which has resulted in damage to the batteries and, in some cases, property in the immediate vicinity.
Products with the UPC number 848876000881 and Model/Serial Number: MLL002 & MLL009 are affected.
The OCS website says to contact Motif Labs Ltd. at 1-855-527-1048 or [email protected]. The BC Cannabis Store website says that returns of this product will be authorized by BC Cannabis Stores and instructs consumers to contact their Customer Care Centre team at [email protected] or 1-844-420-2227 to initiate a return request.
The BOXHOT Glow Sticks vape battery has a 510 thread compatibility, with a button-activated design and a micro USB rechargeable Li-ion battery with a capacity of 650mAh. The product is advertised as offering three times the capacity of the other similar batteries.
As of press time, Health Canada had not yet issued a recall notice for this product.
This is not the first recall due to concerns with a vape pen battery. In 2021, cannabis producer HEXO had to recall 100,000 disposable vape pens following concerns with the on-off mechanism failing, creating enough heat to potentially melt the pen’s plastic shell.
